Anthropic is going to be just fine

It's the fastest-growing software business ever. Also: OpenAI's new post-training lead, Anduril's co-founders want to buy Wired, and more.

I’ll have three issues this week due to a family ski trip. Next week, I’ll be in SF briefly for some meetings and the GDC-adjacent Goldman Sachs/Lightspeed CEO Forum before heading to Austin for SXSW. Holler if you’re around.

Another “acceleration”

Let it be known as the (KP) Katy Perry Curve.

During a talk today to investors at Morgan Stanley’s annual tech conference, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei revealed that the company added $6 billion in annualized revenue last month alone, bringing its total run rate to over $19 billion. At Davos in early January, he told attendees that the company had nearly hit a $10 billion run rate by the end of 2025. Simply put: Anthropic is the fastest-growing software business of all time.

At the same time, Amodei’s fallout with the Department of War has done what even hiring the co-founder of Instagram could not achieve: push Claude to the top of the iOS and Google Play app stores for the first time. It turns out that, in an age of tech CEOs kissing the ring, people like it when a business leader stands up for something. I’ve never seen such a combination of technical and moral (at least perceived) superiority from a tech company since the heyday of Apple.
