“There’s a lot of dystopia around AI”

Shortly after delivering a keynote this weekend at SXSW, Spotify co-CEO Gustav Söderström and I met in a corner booth at the company’s space in downtown Austin, Texas.

Spotify has signed prelicensing deals with rightsholders to eventually enable AI remixing and generation on the platform, but it hasn’t shipped any products yet. Given the anti-AI backlash across creative industries, I asked Söderström whether that sentiment was slowing things down.
