Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s new CEO of Applications, is on the hunt for someone who can help the company make billions of dollars in profit.

Sources say that Simo has recently been meeting with potential candidates, including some of her former Facebook colleagues, to lead a new team that will be tasked with bringing ads to ChatGPT. The role will oversee all monetization efforts across OpenAI, including subscriptions.

Talks are ongoing, but this hire is expected to report directly to Simo, who officially started at OpenAI last month after leaving her former post as CEO of Instacart. She oversees most of OpenAI except for its research, infrastructure, consumer hardware, and safety teams, which report directly to Sam Altman.
