Robin Rombach rarely does interviews, so when I got the Black Forest Labs CEO on a video call the other day, I started with the question hanging over his corner of the industry: are open models at risk?

“The state of open innovation might be at risk,” he told me. “It’s extremely crucial that innovation and information can flow across all kinds of borders... It might be easy to lose sight of that inside of massive commercial opportunities.”
