Today I’m publishing my full interview with Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, which took place last week in front of a live audience at Brunswick Home on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
We talked about what’s coming for Gemini, the new Apple partnership that will put Gemini behind Siri, competing with OpenAI, and what he believes is missing on the road to AGI. We also discussed the return of Google Glass, how he thinks the robotics market will develop, what he thinks of brain-computer-interfaces, and his timeline for AGI. As you’ll be able to tell, Hassabis is feeling confident about Google’s position in the AI race. At the same time, he’s more conservative about AI’s rate of progress than some of his peers.
This interview includes our exchange about advertising in AI chatbots, which went viral last week after I broke it out in the newsletter. Hassabis expressed surprise that OpenAI moved to ads “so early,” while noting that Google has no current plans to put them in Gemini.
Stay tuned for more of my Sources Live interviews in Davos over the coming days. And thanks to Disruptive for making this interview possible.
