My day inside Anthropic
I spoke with employees in the midst of the company's fight with the Trump administration and Claude hitting the top of the App Store.
Anthropic’s San Francisco headquarters is an unmarked building so close to Salesforce Tower that you can see it reflected in the windows. By the time I arrived on Tuesday, the sidewalk chalk that supporters had scrawled out front the week before was gone. Inside, the office was packed.
My visit had been set up well before everything went down with the Pentagon. The plan was to meet with some product leaders and get a sense of where both Anthropic’s enterprise platform and Claude are headed. Then came the company’s fallout with the Department of War, the supply-chain risk designation, suing the government, the big leak, and Claude hitting the top of the App Store for the first time. A typical reporting trip became a chance to see inside one of the most consequential companies during the most intense stretch in its history.
